Economics- P 6

Extra Credit due by Monday at 8:00am by clicking this link!

Some previous assignments you may have missed are indicated below.

Some students may have been absent the day we were in the Tech Lab last and need to create their account. It is important for Period 6 students to use Class Code 938310 when establishing a new account. Ask a fellow student for assistance if need be.

Please see the substitute teacher for the list of student usernames for these periods. If you are completely unable to login to your existing account then you will have to make a new account. ALL STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO FINISH ONE MISSION TODAY!

Table leaders that finish should login to stockmarketgame.com and invest your REMAINING monies in new stocks, following the same rules we have used – stock purchase of 100 shares minimum, no stock selling for under $5 per share nor more than $250 per share (you’ll get locked-out and be unable anyway). Perhaps learn about “selling a stock short”and place an order to sell a stock you feel might lose value short. For instance, I have a teacher account and I sold JCPenney short yesterday, meaning my position is that I sold it for $20.21 and I am hoping the stock will LOOSE value between now and April when I can buy it for less than $20.00, say $18.00 a share. If that happens, I will earn a profit on the difference between what I sold it for and what I bought it for ($2.00 per share)

Many of your trades from Tuesday did not happen. Either table leaders did not execute the trades, or there was some kind of error. In either case, please spend some time today and try to use your remaining funds for investments. We will go over your strategies on Tuesday.

Some older assignments many of you have not yet finished are below:

Assignment to discover what you can learn about Economics using the Internet –
Write one page ONLY, including the URL link to the source of your finding about a subject, topic, or concept in Economics that you researched using the Internet. This could be a blog, Youtube video, khanacademy.org video, economics-themed or financial literacy themed website such as www.fool.com, or other source such as ITunes University.
The point is to discover FREE resources using the technology most of you have at home and learn about economics in a way that is different from how we learn in the classroom. I realize some students will have to utilize our school library, CSUN, or a public library to complete this assignment and that is why I limited it to only ONE page, not two-sided, and NOT on more than one piece of paper. For students thatmissed the original deadline last week (periods 1 and 5), you may earn 55% credit by completing an EXEMPLARY job in the tech lab on Friday, Feb. 22. Try saving your assignment to an electronic locker such as Edline.net or a cloud like dropbox or Google Drive. Then send an email or invite me to view your assignment at teacherhaywood@gmail.com
Additionally, due over a week ago -

Read Chapter 4, Section 3 and complete the following critical thinking activities:

  1. The Critical Thinking Skill on Page 108
  2. Thinking Critically #'s 1 and 2 on Page 110

Write one paragraph Thinking Like an Economist on Page 111

Picking up economic books at a public library can be a good way of learning the subject. Monopoly is also a fun way to learn the concepts of economy.

Hello Mr. Haywood,
I think the internet can be used for many resources such as being able to keep updated with different sotcks. The internet can also be useful because you can simply just search anything and you will get results.
